CoverMe App

What Is CoverMe App?

CoverMe is a free mobile app that is available for both Android and iOS that protects calls, messaging, and all other information through encryption. All data is secured in a personal vault that only you can access via password. If your device or phone is stolen or lost, there’s no concern about your data being seen because it remains in your encrypted vault. Calls and messages are fully encrypted through VoIP (voice over Internet Protocol), which are phone calls transmitted over the web using your phone’s WiFi connection or cell phone data.

Our Findings

The following Apple devices are supported by CoverMe: iPhone 3GS, 4, 4S, 5, iPad, iPad Mini, iPod Touch, and iOS version 5.0 or higher. The app can be downloaded from the App Store. CoverMe is also made for devices running Android 2.3 or higher. Android users can find the app in the Google Play store.

CoverMe is known to use the following encryption algorithms: AES-128, AES-256, and RSA. All three of these algorithms are considered highly secure. AES is used by the US government and is an encryption specification that was adopted by the Commerce Department’s National Institute of Standards and Technology.

The Self-Destruct option allows you to send sensitive messages to someone and they will self-destruct after they are read or after a designated period of time. This feature can be used if you need to pass along information to someone but don’t want anyone else to ever see the details of the message. However, CoverMe warns that they cannot guarantee the message will self-destruct at the designated time, making this an unreliable feature.

Key Features

  • Encrypted vault
  • Private calls
  • Private texts
  • Self-destructing messages

Needs Improvement

  • At times, CoverMe users won’t receive notifications that they have new messages. This appears to be a glitch in the app.
  • When using the self-destruct messages feature, use caution as the company warns it is not always reliable.
  • When first downloading the app, there is a warning notification that your password is unable to be recovered. If you have paid for the extra features or a specific number of calls or messages, you are unable to get your account or money back if you forget the password.

User Skill/Experience Required

CoverMe can be downloaded from Google Play or the App Store. If you’re familiar with downloading apps, there’s not much else that you need to know because once you have the app on your device, it will walk you through the setup. Customer support is via email on their website only.
